May Marks 50 Years Since Freedom Rides In South

Washington - This week marks the anniversary of 50 for the civil rights freedom riders, who bus to face racial discrimination in the south.

Freedom Riders bus starts from 13 and Washington 50 years ago Wednesday in 1961. They traveled south through the Richmond, Virginia, and Green, North Carolina, and finally in Rock Hill, South Carolina, where they met with strong resistance.

The Georgia Attorney John Lewis of the Freedom Riders attacked the Rock Hill in an attempt to get the white room, just waiting at the bus station to enter.

The riders continued in all parts of Georgia and Alabama, and petrol bombs by the Ku Klux Klan. They made their journey to New Orleans on board the plane before returning to the state of Mississippi.
