James Franco has always had an elusive, but very ubiquitous presence in Hollywood. He hosted the 2011 Oscars (37 million eyeballs there), starred in three installments of Spider-Man (all blockbuster films) and has written a book called Palo Alto (he's graced the literary word too!) But there's just something untouchable about this Renaissance man: he may or may not be serious with his live-in girlfriend, his eyes are perpetually glazed over even though many claim he has ditched the weed and he doesn't seem to get out much. Which makes describing him a frustrating -- but captivating task.
In the hopes that some chronological low-down might give better insight into the essence of the actor/writer/filmmaker/student, we've made a scrappy James Franco timeline. Maybe the raw facts themselves (he's in five graduate school programs) will help explain the man we can't seem to explain ourselves.
