Wilson Phillips Christmas:Wilson Phillips burst onto the music scene in 1990 with their eponymous debut album. Not only has it reached number two on the charts the album United States, it has also produced five top twelve singles, three of which reached number one. They certainly have the right pedigree for stardom. Carnie and Wendy Wilson are the daughters of Brian Wilson and Chyna is the daughter of Michelle and John Phillips.
Wilson Phillips split and put together a couple of times and have not been prolific in the studio. Their latest version is only their fourth studio album as a trio during the last twenty years. Wendy and Carnie Wilson released her holiday album in 1993. Now, the three members of Wilson Phillips entered the studio together and produced a new Christmas album.
Christmas In Harmony is a Christmas release that works. They combine several original compositions, with a group of lighter melodies and some secular traditional hymns to create a nice mix. Their famous harmonies are always present to provide the foundation for their music. They wisely brought producer Glen Ballad, who had worked with them during their most popular.
“Santa Claus Is Coming To Town” and “Sleigh Ride” recall the best of sixties girl bands. They even managed to get the most recorded “Little Drummer Boy” and “Silent Night”.
“Warm Christmas Lovin ‘,” written by Ron Bonfiglio who is the husband of Carnie Wilson and “Christmas”, written by Phillips and Chyna Ballad are two fine additions to the catalog of Christmas songs. The best original compositions is “Joy.” There was a collective effort written by Wilson Phillips, Bonfiglio, Ballad, Danny Knutson, and Scott Campbell. The voices rise and come together in perfect harmony. The album ends with the short of Brian Wilson (who also organized the track) composition “Our Prayer.” It shows the beauty of their voices a cappella style. The only missing is the first track. “I Wish It Could Be Christmas” was written by Roy Wood for his group, which was also different Wizzard style of Wilson Phillips as we can. They just could not the song completely suits their style. Wilson Phillips is not the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. They have the wisdom to create a great pop album and sophisticated type of holiday that reflects the strengths of their singing, both individually and collectively. Christmas in Harmony is a beautiful light and listen to an excellent addition to the season.
